Sharing my thoughts
I have been following the events in Iran and am deeply saddened by the people's plight and their quest for freedom from their despotic leaders, both religious and political... The era of the electronic age has shown the Iranian people that the rest of the world is living a better life and they want the same for themselves and their families. They can see that people can have a government, that while not perfect, can be about the people and their needs. I take all of my freedoms for granted - I can wear whateve I like, go wherever I please, work any job I care to, say anything I want against the government, against my boss or employer, anything at all without fear of reprisal. I do not need to be escorted by anyone, much less a male. I am not beholden to my husband for my life or my support. I have raised two fine children, one of whom is an extremely aggressive and intelligent female who is about to go off to law school. I know the Iranian people want to have this type of life as well and their current leader is about to send them down the road of extremism again - him and his religious counterpart want women to be locked in their homes and only used to create babies and cater to the whims of their husbands. This is not the way nature intended. Men and women have different but equal purposes in life. Men have the intelligence, physical strength and stamina to build, create, defend. Women have the natural intelligence of the hunter/gatherer and the nurturing nature and compassion to keep civilization from barbarity. We respect our differences and co-exist peacefully. The Iranian leaders and their followers are afraid of the power of women, knowing full well that just as many of them as men are intelligent and organized enough to run the country in a much better and more compassionate manner and they want to squash any and all independence in women so that they can keep their power. The current unrest in Iran is just the beginning. Unfortunately, there will be many more martyrs and deaths and this mades me sadder still. My prayers are with your country and my hopes that you will all attain the freedoms that you so greatly deserve.
